'Fastest Guy in the NFL' Preparing for More in 2013

Posted May 14, 2013

Dir. of Player Personnel Matt Russell called Trindon Holliday the fastest player in the NFL, and the returner is looking to build on a big 2012.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- In the 2012 regular season, Trindon Holliday was undefeated.

A 5-0 start with Houston combined with an 11-0 mark after joining the Broncos in October meant the returner was the only player in the league to go 16-0.

But the one loss he experienced last year -- the overtime playoff defeat to the eventual Super Bowl-champion Baltimore Ravens that ended Denver's season -- has stuck with him.

"It's been really tough," Holliday said of the offseason. "Being that we came out and gave it all that we had in that game, it’s just being able to come out this offseason and get ready to go.”

The third-year pro is doing everything he can to make sure he helps the team get even farther in 2013.

With a full offseason in Denver, he believes his second year as a Bronco "has a lot in store," which is saying something for a player that was one of just five in the league with a kickoff and punt return touchdown. He had two of each.

"Trindon is an explosive guy -- we feel like he's probably the fastest guy in the NFL," Director of Player Personnel Matt Russell said in a fan forum with season-ticket holders. "What he did last year was really unprecedented in the NFL. So we're excited to have him."

While Holliday's main role clearly comes on special teams, he said he wouldn't be opposed to a bigger role on offense.

At 5-foot-5, 170 pounds, Holliday might not be suited for a full-time offensive role -- especially given his importance on special teams -- but he said he's ready to step in whenever his number is called.

"It's the coaches' call," he said. "Whatever the coaches need, whatever my team needs, I'll be ready to go."

However Holliday is used, his teammates are just glad it's opposing teams that have to gameplan for him.

“He’s a fun guy to watch because any time he touches the ball it’s exciting," kicker Matt Prater said. "He can score on any play. It’s definitely exciting to watch him and have him out here.”

"I’m glad we’re not kicking to him anymore and he’s on our team now."
