Broncos to Host Colts in Primetime Opener

Posted Apr 23, 2014

Denver will open the season against Indianapolis at 6:30 p.m. MT on Sunday, Sept. 7, 2014 at Sports Authority Field at Mile High.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. – For the fourth straight season, the Broncos will open the season at home in primetime.

This year, it is the Indianapolis Colts coming to the Mile High City to open Denver’s 2014 campaign.

There are plenty of storylines that will converge in that opener, leading with Peyton Manning playing his second career game against his former team. Manning has earned victories against 31 of the 32 NFL teams, with the lone club evading him being the one he spent 14 years with to start his career.

Denver and Indianapolis matched up on Sunday Night Football in Week 7 of 2013 in Indianapolis, where the Colts earned a 39-33 win to give Denver its first loss of the season.

The Week 1 matchup against Indianapolis starts a difficult opening stretch of the schedule for the Broncos, with the first three games coming against three playoff teams from a season ago.

Indianapolis finished 11-5 to win the AFC South. The Colts then advanced to the Divisional Round with a dramatic come-from-behind 45-44 win against Kansas City in the Wild Card Round of the AFC playoffs.

This year’s matchup will be the 20th all-time between the two franchises. Denver is 11-9 in those games, including a 6-3 home record. The last time Indianapolis played in Denver was on Sept. 26, 2010 when the Colts beat the Broncos 27-13. Peyton Manning completed 27-of-43 passes for 325 yards with three touchdowns and a 109.2 quarterback rating in that Colts victory.
