2014 NFL Draft Preview: Guards/Centers

Posted Apr 9, 2014

A look at the top prospects at the interior offensive line positions in the 2014 NFL Draft.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- In the weeks leading up to the 2014 NFL Draft, DenverBroncos.com is taking a look at the draft prospects position-by-position.

We will devote a week to each group, looking back at some of the Broncos' previous picks at the position and showcasing the top prospects along with providing independent analyst Andrew Mason's take on what the Broncos might do at the position this year.

This week: offensive linemen, which we will divide into tackles and guards/centers.

Below you will find five of the top prospects at offensive guard and center. For a photo gallery of the position groups, click here.

TOP PROSPECTS AT THE POSITION:

GABE JACKSON
• POSITION: Guard
• COLLEGE: Mississippi State
• HEIGHT: 6'3"
• WEIGHT: 336
• CAREER STATS: Started 26 of 35 games played
• COMBINE: 5.51 40-yd. dash; 30 bench reps; 29.0 in. vert. jump
NFL Network's Charles Davis on Gabe Jackson:
"If you're looking for a guard, looking for a guy who can play, I think Gabe Jackson is someone you'd better be looking at. ... (He's) an absolute road-grader."
Player
MARCUS MARTIN
Player • POSITION: Center
• COLLEGE: USC
• HEIGHT: 6'3"
• WEIGHT: 320
• CAREER STATS: Started all 35 games played
• COMBINE: 23 bench reps
On making calls at the line of scrimmage:
"All the line calls were basically predicated on who I declared as the Mike linebacker and I made the majority of the line calls. The quarterback would identify some free safety rotation or something like that, but the majority of the line calls, I made.”
WESTON RICHBURG
• POSITION: Center
• COLLEGE: Colorado State
• HEIGHT: 6'3"
• WEIGHT: 298
• CAREER STATS: Started all 50 games played
• COMBINE: 5.10 40-yd. dash; 25 bench reps; 25.5 in. vert. jump

On his strengths:
“I get my hands on guys quick. If I can do that I can negate any moves they’re going to try and throw me. I think that’s one of my biggest things. And I like to get after guys. I’ve got an attitude, really like to be physical."

Player
XAVIER SU'A-FILO
Player • POSITION: Guard
• COLLEGE: UCLA
• HEIGHT: 6'4"
• WEIGHT: 307
• CAREER STATS: Started all 40 games played
• COMBINE: 5.04 40-yd. dash; 25 bench reps; 25.0 in. vert. jump
On his leadership:
"In the locker room, I tried to be a leader. I was voted team captain the last two years and tried to give an example to my teammates, especially our young offensive line, how our coaches expect things to be done and how we’re going to be successful."
DAVID YANKEY
• POSITION: Guard
• COLLEGE: Stanford
• HEIGHT: 6'6"
• WEIGHT: 315
• CAREER STATS: Started all 42 games played
• COMBINE: 5.48 40-yd. dash; 22 bench reps; 28.5 in. vert. jump
On why Stanford players are prepared for the NFL:
“I think it’s a combination of a lot of things. We come in and they emphasize being really tough. We’re going to go out and be physical every week. We’re not going to let up. Having that base. And then also you have the intellectual side where we’re going to have a really complex playbook and we’re going to expect you to understand it.”
